Everton boss Silva confirms Gomes could play again this season

Everton manager Marco Silva has provided an update on former Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes who suffered a horrible injury in the 1-1 draw against Tottenham last Sunday.

"Everything went really well and we hope we can see him playing again this season," the 42-year-old said, as quoted by the BBC. "It's not easy for us to give an exact date of when he will return but in our mind, and the feedback from our medical staff is that it is possible.

"We all saw that moment and it looked like a really serious injury. Obviously, it is not something we can be 100% sure on but there are lots of positives."

Gomes arrived at Barcelona from Valencia for €35m plus €20m in add-ons back in 2016. In two seasons with the Catalans, the 26-year-old made 78 appearances across all competitions, scored 3 goals and won 4 trophies.

In August 2018, the Portugal international joined Everton on a season-long loan for a fee of €2.25m. After the midfielder's solid 2018/19 campaign, the Toffees signed Andre on a permanent deal for around €25m.
