Keeping up with Messi - A look at 7 likely things the Barcelona star is doing in quarantine

Life in quarantine is not easy by any means. The coronavirus pandemic has affected the lives of millions of people across the world and all because someone decided to eat a bat.

Lionel Messi is no different, with the entire footballing community currently indoors in an attempt to self-isolate and prevent the virus from spreading further.

However, let's be real. While this is a necessary measure to flatten the curve, there's only so much Netflix you can watch to pass time. And what might Messi do when he's bored at home?

1. Cranking up some Maluma

What do you do when the world is moments away from a potential zombie apocalypse-like situation? Well, you crank up some groovy Latin-inspired music and dance. Or at least, sway to the tunes and pretend to dance.

Back in 2017, Messi had even attended a Maluma concert with Barcelona teammate Luis Suarez and his wife Antonela - in addition to being pictured with the singer often.

Maluma's music is catchy, fresh and although most of us may not understand the lyrics, it's still better than trying to understand what's happening with the world!

2. Overdosing on some Milanesa Napolitana

Good food can instantly make things seem a lot better than they really are. And according to the book about his life by Luca Caoili, Messi's mother Celia says that this simple yet delicious Argentine dish is his absolute favourite.

Described as a dish involving chicken schnitzel (Messi doesn't prefer ham or horsemeat) with a sauce of pepper, onions, tomatoes and oregano, this is something we could all whip up in our kitchens with whatever we have.

3. Silently brooding about a certain Josep Maria Bartomeu

As we all know, Messi is a man of few words. But lately, he has often broken his silence about his rift with Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

From publicly criticizing his actions to opposing the direction towards which the club are heading, it is evident that things are not hunky-dory in the Barcelona camp.

In fact, one can just imagine him sitting silently in a corner of his house doing nothing but brooding with a steely expression on his face. And unlike many of his other contemporaries, Messi is not as hot-headed or short-tempered. Also, ever since he grew a beard, he certainly fits the part of a silent brooder.

4. Binge-watching Nicky Jam: El Ganador

The Netflix drama based on the life of reggae artist Nicky Jam has always been one of the footballer's favourite ways to unwind.

With good music and a healthy dose of crime and drugs, this show is perfect to revisit or binge watch when you're endlessly scrolling through Netflix's content.

A self-confessed reggae fan, this would be one of the most perfect ways for Messi to kill time while self-isolating.

5. Sharpening Ciro's bottle flip skills

At a time when a ton of challenges - some downright ridiculous - are dominating social media feeds, it does make sense for Messi to revisit the bottle flip challenge - which actually guarantees a fun time!

Last year, a video of him flipping a bottle for a delighted Ciro went viral. In the video, Messi is seen doing the deed while the toddler looks on in glee. Perhaps, this would be the ideal time for the footballer to teach his son a trick or two about flipping bottles.

It won't be very long before Ciro gets his own Instagram account and what better way to start things off than with a perfect bottle flip?

6. Playing endless hours of FIFA

The footballer has admitted to being a huge fan of the game in the past. While the rest of us play to get a taste of what it's like being on the field - albeit virtually - Messi prefers FIFA for both recreational and professional purposes.

It is a great way to learn about tactics while sharpening one's mind about the kind of tricks that can be pulled to win games by a cat's whisker. And when you can't actually play on the field, FIFA does come close as the next best thing.

7. Revelling in his famed jersey collection

For the Money Heist fans in the house, do you remember that scene where Denver and Moscow open the safe in the Royal Bank of Spain for the first time?

Denver does what most of us would do - jump head straight into the pile of money and just lay down on it. And when you have a prized collection of shirts worn by some of the biggest and most iconic names in the world, any football fan would do something similar. Or at least, harbour such thoughts in your mind, right?

Bonus - Drinking red wine and catching up on some zzz's

Hey, being one of the best footballers on the plant can be exhausting. With the rigid schedules, the constant travels, brand endorsements - not to mention, all of Messi's charity work and the fact that he is a father of three - it is safe to assume that he normally doesn't get much time to rest.

Drinking some red wine and sleeping are two activities that would constitute an ideal day for nearly every adult in the world - barring those who don't drink, of course. And why should Messi be any different?

What do you think, Barcelona fans? How else would Messi be spending his time? Share your views in the comments or in our brand-new blogging platform!
