Barca 7-1 PSG: word 'remontada' to enter French dictionary

The French dictionary Larousse will hit the last nail in their coffin, making the score 7-1 in Barca's favour.

According to Le Point, the word 'remontada', meaning 'comeback' in Spanish, will enter the Larousse dictionary of the French language in 2021.

How is this related to Barcelona? Glad you asked.

Back in the 2016-17 season, Barcelona lost 4-0 away to Paris Saint-Germain. However, Luis Enrique's squad didn't lose their hearts and managed to overturn the tie after winning 6-1 at home.

In the Spanish press, they used 'La Remontada' (Spanish for 'The Comeback') to refer to that game. The match became a sensation not only for Barca fans but to every football fan around the world.

Eventually, fans picked up the phrase and now use it when talking about other unbelievable comebacks. The French football fans were no exception.

Now, over four years later, the word has become so popular that it will enter the dictionary. Here's what remontada will stand for, as reported by RMC Sport.

  • 1. Unexpected score recovery allowing the losing team to win in a football match when there was a large point gap between the two teams, by extension, an unexpected victory for a team or a player in any competition
  • 2. Return to the foreground, a spectacular victory for a party or politician after an electoral defeat, etc.

And, of course, here's the video to remind yourself of that great night.
