Jordi Cruyff recalls his father watching Pep lose first La Liga game in charge at Barca: He said it was the best game he had seen in years

In the 'Take the ball, move the ball' documentary, Jordi Cruyff, the son of Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff, remembered watching Pep Guardiola's first La Liga match as head coach at Blaugrana.

"I actually saw that game with my father, here at home. And they lost to Numancia, and immediately the attacks [started]. 'He's not prepared for this.'

"My father said it's the best game I've seen in years.

"You know, [I said] 'come on, give us a break!' It was not the best game. Most of us, including me, probably saw the game and said 'Wow! This doesn't smell good.'

"My father never looked at the end product of 90 minutes. My father looked at the end product of many years to come."

Guardiola's start at Barca wasn't the best one. He lost the first game to newly-promoted Numancia 1-0. In the second La Liga game, Barca drew at home against Racing Santander and Pep won his first three points only in the third game.

Despite the bad start, Barca ended the 2008/09 season winning the treble.
