Liverpool approach Pedri's representatives, Barca set to offer youngster new deal to scare them away (reliability: 3 stars)

Liverpool are keeping close tabs on Pedri and have already contacted the 18-year-old's camp, according to the Mirror.

The Reds, however, have little chance of landing the midfielder as Barcelona are set to offer him a new deal to fight off competition from the Premier League champions.

Pedri's current contract expires in 2022 and the Catalans have an option to extend it by two years.

The midfielder has become a key player for Ronald Koeman's side, missing just one out of Barca's 45 matches across all competitions this season.

'A good future awaits': Pedri excited about emerging youngsters at Barcelona

Barcelona are blessed with a number of talented youngsters which denotes a great future for the club, Pedri say.

Speaking to La Liga TV, Pedri said: "There are a lot of young players coming through at Barca. We need to keep a cool head and work hard to earn our place, every day. A good future awaits if we work hard."

Pedri, 18, has been a revelation for the Blaugrana this season. A year ago, the same was said of Ansu Fati who's been hampered due to injury.

Ilaix Moriba is another teenager who has shone through at Barca this season.

Oscar Mingueza, Riqui Puig, Frenkie de Jong and Sergino Dest are more young players Barcelona can rely on in the future.

'It’s a dream I’ve had since I was a kid': Pedri on Spain debut

"I would have liked to have made my debut in another way, but it’s a dream I’ve had since I was a kid,” Pedri told Sport after the game against Greece.

"I’m happy about that but not about the draw. There wasn’t much space in the middle for me, I could not turn, we lacked fluidity in our play."

Pedri made his debut when he was introduced in the 65th minute against Greece. At that point, Anastasios Bakasetas had already cancelled out Alvaro Morata's opener and Spain failed to come up with a winner.

Pedri's achievement is a testament to the fine season he's having at Barca. The teenager has surprisingly made more appearances than any Barca player this season.
