Diego Maradona's doctors 'could be sentenced to 25 years in prison'

7 people accused of causing Diego Maradona's death 'could be sentenced to 25 years in prison', according to AFP.

In particular, the legendary Argentine's neurosurgeon, psychiatrist and psychologist are said to be suspected of committing the crime.

The investigation considers the doctors' actions inadequate, insufficient and careless: the former Barcelona player was allegedly not provided with proper care and the necessary treatment.

The exact time of Maradona's death was also established – it turned out that when they were trying to reanimate him, he had been dead for several hours.

Diego Maradona died from a cardiac arrest on November 25 at home where he was recovering after being discharged from the hospital.

Massive brawl in Maradona's last game with Barca: Fierce clash vs Athletic Bilbao 35 years ago

  • The 1984 Copa del Rey final is well-remembered by the fans of Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona but for the wrong reason — for the terrible brawl that broke out at the end of the game.
  • The fight started with Diego Maradona headbutting Miguel Angel Sola, elbowing another and knocking out another Bilbao player with a knee to the head.
  • The rest of the players quickly joined in, with Diego still remaining in the centre of the action.

The fans played their part as well, throwing solid objects at the players, coaches and even photographers; as a result, sixty people were injured.

We should mention that the Argentine was constantly taunted during the game, with the fans and even players using racist insults against Maradona's father who's of Native American ancestry.

Besides, he had a personal vendetta against Bilbao's Andoni Goikoetxea, who broke his ankle in a previous match; there were reports that the injury could've put an end to his career.

The mass brawl happened right in front of Spain's King Juan Carlos and 100,000 fans inside the stadium.

'He was a poet, a great champion and a very fragile man': Pope Francis pays tribute to Diego Maradona

"I met Diego Armando Maradona during a Match for Peace in 2014: I remember with pleasure everything that Diego did for Scholas Occurrentes, the foundation that takes care of the needy all over the world," Pope Francis told Gazzetta dello Sport, quoted by Goal.

"On the pitch, he was a poet, a great champion who gave joy to millions of people, in Argentina as in Naples. He was also a very fragile man," Diego's fellow Argentine added.

The Pope concluded: "When I was told of Maradona's death, I prayed for him and sent the family a rosary with a few personal words of comfort."

Diego Maradona passed away after a cardiac arrest on November 25, aged 60.
