OFFICIAL: Koeman stays at Barcelona

Joan Laporta confirms Ronald Koeman will manage Barcelona next season.

"After a few talks with Ronald, we've decided that we'll extend his current deal. I'm happy that the negotiations were fruitful," the president has said.

Ronald Koeman is expected to sign a new one-year deal with Barcelona. There will be an option of extending the contract for one more year, until 2023.

Koeman has been in charge of Barca since August 2020, leading the team to the Copa del Rey glory.

The 58-year-old has won 2.09 points per game with Blaugrana.

Ronald de Boer rips into Laporta over 'unprofessional and arrogant' treatment of Koeman

"[Koeman] knew when he went [to Barcelona] that it was a difficult time," Ronald de Boer has said in an interview with Marca.

"The departure of players like Luis Suarez affected the dressing room, especially [Lionel] Messi, but the team did well by winning the Copa del Rey. It was a shame, they were close [to winning the league title], but in the last games they couldn't fight for La Liga.

"Some blamed him [and] said he was responsible, but Koeman made Barcelona believe, something that had been lost. He made them see that they could beat anyone, and Messi got back his figures. He has done a good job.

"I do not understand what is happening. Laporta is a great person, but it is strange to act like that.

"Telling a coach to wait 15 days with an open mind I think is unprofessional [and] arrogant. I think that Ronald doesn't deserve it.

"I don't know if he's going to continue, I think it's the only option there is. It's a weird situation, it's not the best way to do things. Let's hope he stays and continues to prove himself. He deserves it."

According to reliable reports in Catalonia, Laporta asked Koeman for 15 more days to finalize negotiations with other candidates in a private meeting last week before confirming the current head coach's stay at Barca for another season.

On Tuesday, however, the club's president claimed that he sees the Dutchman 'closer to staying than leaving' Camp Nou.

Alba talks his future amid exit rumours, comments on Koeman situation

"I have three years of [Barca] contract left and I feel capable of fulfilling them. The club's decision is there, but my intention is to stay in Barcelona for life," Jordi Alba has told TVE.

"Koeman? I hope that everything will be resolved as soon as possible, the coach has a contract and has had a great season. The decision is made by the president and we will accept it," Alba added.

Earlier, it was reported that Barcelona could sell Jordi Alba to shift their wage budget. Atletico Madrid even made an offer for the 32-year-old, it is said.

Alba scored 5 goals and provided 15 assists for Blaugrana last season.
