How Blaugranas compare to Europe's best defenders when they stand against opposing dribblers: 2020/21 analysis

Ronald Araujo had been the worst nightmare for opposing forwards in the 2020/21 season as they were dribbling past the Barcelona centre-back just 0.12 times per 90 minutes - the best numbers in Europe's top five leagues, as per FBref.com.

Number of times dribbled past by an opposing player in 2020/21, per 90 minutes:

Jose Fonte - 0.28

Felipe - 0.31

Ruben Dias - 0.54

Marquinhos - 0.76

This chart, however, doesn't include the number of appearances meaning that the likes of Samuel Umtiti simply had fewer 'opportunities' to got dribbled past.

Eric Garcia, in turn, only played a total of 380 minutes in the Premier League last term.

'I hope to be here for many more years': Araujo confirms extension talks with Barca

"I’m very happy at Barcelona. I hope to be here for many more years and give my best in every season. I have one more season of contract left [until 2022], but I'm calm. I hope I can stay at the club," Ronald Araujo has told ESPN Uruguay.

"I think I had a good season and it's nice to talk about one well. There’s talk of renewing but I'm currently focused on the national team, we'll see what happens at the club later on."

Araujo joined Barca from Boston River back in 2018 in a move worth €1.7m plus €3.5m in add-ons and was assigned to the reserves. The Uruguayan was promoted to the first team ahead of the 2020/21 season and went on to make 33 appearances, scoring two goals and providing an assist.
