Eric Garcia gives his take on former teammate Laporte possibly joining Barca

In his recent interview with Diario Sport, Eric Garcia was asked to comment on the possibility of his former Manchester City teammate Aymeric Laporte following his path and joining Barcelona over the summer.

"I do not know anything about it. We haven't talked about this. We are focused on the 2020 Euros but if he comes, he would obviously be a great player," Garcia said.

The 20-year-old centre-back also commented on Laporte's attributes as a player.

"He is a great player as you could've noticed in his debut for Spain, I'm very happy for him. He is great with the ball at his feet, has a left foot as only a few centre-backs do and a winning mentality which is very important in football."

Barca have been linked with Laporte as they are reportedly looking to sign another centre-back this summer. Joan Laporta has confirmed that the Catalans are working on bringing in players on swap deals, and, according to previous reports, the 27-year-old could be one of them.

"It is a complicated scenario. He wants to feel important but it looks like Manchester City will always prefer someone else ahead of him," Dani Gil claims in his report for Mundo Deportivo, citing a source from Aymeric Laporte's entourage.

The Manchester City defender has directly responded to the report on Twitter.

"Dani, nobody has talked to you and nobody will talk" Laporte tweeted, adding three lying face emojis.

Meanwhile, it's said that the 27-year-old is a top target for Barcelona as they want to sign a centre-back in addition to Eric Garcia this summer. However, the potential transfer is expected to take some time as the Catalans need to sell some of their players first.

Last season, the French-born Spanish international played 27 matches for the Citizens and scored two goals.

Laporte doubts his future at Man City, 'would love' to join Barca (reliability: 4 stars)

Aymeric Laporte has some serious doubts about his long-term future at Manchester City and is considering a return to La Liga this summer, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The 27-year-old has lost his starting XI spot at the Cityzens this season and doesn't understand why Pep Guardiola hasn't communicated with him for a long time to discuss the situation.

Barcelona are said to be interested in the centre-back who 'would love' to join the Blaugrana, as per the source.

The Catalans' dire financial situation, however, would only make the proposed transfer possible if Barca include their players in a swap deal involving Laporte.

Aymeric had spent six years at Athletic Bilbao before moving to City for €65m in January 2018. The defender is now valued at €45m by Transfermarkt.
