Barca post picture in support of LGBTQ+ after UEFA refuse to light up stadium in rainbow colours, Pique and Laporta join in

In response to UEFA refusing to light up the Allianz Arena in rainbow colours at the request of the German national team, Barcelona's official account on Twitter has posted a picture in support of the LGBTQ+ community.

"Pride and respect," the caption reads.

Gerard Pique and Joan Laporta supported the initiative.

"Yes, of course," the centre-back has tweeted.

"Because we are more than a club," the president's tweet reads.

Germany wanted to light up their home ground in the rainbow colours for the Euro 2020 clash against Hungary which is scheduled for Wednesday, June 23.

UEFA have rejected the request saying that it was a political statement and the organization chooses to remain politically and religiously neutral. According to Hungary's legislation, it is prohibited to share contents 'in schools that could be deemed to promote homosexuality and gender change'.

Griezmann posts pic of Allianz Arena in rainbow colours after UEFA reject the idea due to political reasons

Antoine Griezmann has posted a picture of the Allianz Arena in rainbow colours via his official Twitter account.

The Frenchman's latest social media activity comes as a response to UEFA who rejected Germany's request to light up their home arena in support of the LGBTQ+ community for Wednesday's Euro 2020 clash with Hungary.

The thing is that Hungary's law prohibits the 'sharing of content in schools that could be deemed to promote homosexuality and gender change'.

Thus, UEFA have offered alternative dates for the stadium to be illuminated.

"Racism, homophobia, sexism, and all forms of discrimination are a stain on our societies – and represent one of the biggest problems faced by the game today," the governing body's statement on Tuesday read.

"Discriminatory behaviour has marred both matches themselves and, outside the stadiums, the online discourse around the sport we love.

"However UEFA, through its statutes, is a politically and religiously neutral organisation. Given the political context of this specific request – a message aiming at a decision taken by the Hungarian national parliament – UEFA must decline this request.

"UEFA has nevertheless proposed to the city of Munich to illuminate the stadium with the rainbow colours on either 28 June – the Christopher Street Liberation Day – or between 3 and 9 July which is the Christopher Street Day week in Munich."

'Meanwhile, Messi slurps Pepsi and we still have GOAT debates?': Cristiano Ronaldo removes Coca Cola bottles during presser – fans bring Leo into discussion

Cristiano Ronaldo was in attendance at Portugal’s pre-Hungary press conference on Monday to spark controversy by removing a couple of Coca-Cola bottles placed ahead of him at the table.

Coca-Cola are one of the major sponsors of Euro 2020 but it didn't stop the Juventus forward from urging everyone to ‘drink water’ instead of soda.

Some fans have quickly dragged Ronaldo's biggest rival Lionel Messi into the discussion as the Barcelona icon is a long-term face of the Pepsi brand.

no-more-job-gloves via Reddit: "Meanwhile, Messi is slurping Pepsi in ads on the regular. And we still have serious debates about who the GOAT is?"

Husseinnn__ via Twitter: "This tweet made me realize Cristiano is the undisputed goat."

sam_shukla7 via Twitter: "Why Cristiano raised Messi high there?"

chrisma5on via Twitter: "Coke probably paid about €20m to have their bottles there."
