Spain's goalkeeper turns Pedri's backpass into horrendous own goal

The round of 16 match between Spain and Croatia at the 2020 Euros couldn't have started worse for La Roja. In the 20th minute, Pedri passed the ball back to his goalkeeper, Unai Simon, only for the Athletic Bilbao player to completely miss the ball.

Here's how Luis Enrique reacted.

Although it's obviously Simon's fault that the ball went in, UEFA's official website has counted it as an own goal by Pedri.

Hopefully, the 18-year-old won't blame himself for it. At Barcelona, passing back to the goalkeeper is usually safe as Marc-Andre ter Stegen is very good with his feet.

Pedri becomes youngest ever player to feature in Euro knock-out game

Pedri is set to start for Spain in their round of 16 match against Croatia at the 2020 Euros. At 18 years and 215 days old, the Barcelona midfielder becomes the youngest ever player to feature in a knock-out game in the tournament's history, Opta say.

Pedri has beaten the record of Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney, who played against in the quarter-finals against Portugal back in 2004 at 18 years and 244 days of age.

So far at the tournament, Pedri has started in all of Spain's matches. However, despite his overall good performance, he's yet to register a goal contribution.
