One of the 27-year-old's affections are supercars - something Depay showed by arriving at his first Barca training in a $325,000 Rolls-Royce earlier this week.

Depay opens up on his grandfather's prophecy about him playing at Barca

, your mother told me a secret. She told me that when you were five years old your grandfather gave you the 

 shirt and told you that you would play for Barcelona one day and here you are," Joan Laporta said during the Dutchman's presentation at Camp Nou.

The 27-year-old went on to comment on the 'secret',

"I had received a Barça jersey...it was a prophecy. More than 20 years later, I am here. My grandfather [who gave Memphis the jersey as a gift] is not here, but he would be proud," he responded.

"It's an honour to be here. Finally, I got to be where I wanted to be when I was little...I'm really excited to play in front of the fans. I think the team is ready for next season. I also want to thank the coach for his great intention."

Depay has joined Barca on a contract until 2023. He arrived on a free transfer from Lyon.

After he signed his contract together with club president Joan Laporta, the 27-year-old went to the locker room to put on the Barca kit for the first time.
