Barcelona receive €100m Saudi shirt sponsorship offer, board stance revealed

Mundo Deportivo report that a Saudi Arabian company has submitted an offer of around €100m to become 

The Blaugrana board are reluctant to accept it, in particular, because of Saudi Arabia's poor human rights record. However, accepting it remains a possibility.

Mundo Deportivo do not state whether the €100m offer a Saudi company has made is a yearly payment or a total sum of a two- or three-year deal.

The newspaper reports the Catalans have received several other bid from potential sponsors.

Laporta reveals viagra company offered to become Barcelona shirt sponsor

Joan Laporta has opened up on the difficulties of finding the right shirt sponsor for 

"I had offers, for example, from a bookmaker and from a company that wanted to sell viagra," the president recalled at a club assembly, as quoted by Marca.

"It did not seem appropriate to us. We bet on UNICEF."

Viagra is a drug used to treat male sexual function problems.

Barcelona's current shirt sponsor is Rakuten, a Japanese retail company.

The Catalans had UNICEF on their kits between 2006 and 2011. The United Nations' children agency did not pay anything to Barcelona as it was a sign of Blaugrana's commitment to children welfare.

Barcelona turn down deal with 'big sponsor' to avoid offending China

Barcelona have turned down a major sponsorship deal with Swedish textile brand H&M to avoid provoking China, as per ARA. 

The Blaugrana had been in talks with the brand since 2020 to become the new sponsor of the club's clothing line.

Just a quick Google check tells me that America is not in the top 10 countries regarding the rate of rape, America is ranked 10th in the ‘most racist country’ again according to google. I also looked up the country with the most human rights violations and America wasn’t in the top 10 there either? So I ask, where are you getting these ‘facts’ from? Are you familiar with the name Jamal Khassoggi who was brutally murdered on orders from the Saudi Royal family? This is a genuine fact and not a made up one like yours. Literally no idea what boogies on about regarding china and rakuten which is a Japanese company and not chinese! Before you ask no I am not American. I just believe that we are more than a club and I don’t want blood money attached to us otherwise we’re no better than any other club. I understand the frustration regarding criminals walking away whilst the rich go unpunished but I don’t think we should mortgage our moral future to the Saudis. Especially after Laporta himself criticised the deal with Qatar when it was initially done under bartomeu. He’s shown himself to be many things recently I just hope he doesn’t add hypocrite to the list.

I’m sorry Tay but we can’t just accept because it’s 100mill a year we can sweep the human rights issues under the carpet as ‘they are violated almost everywhere in the world’. That just means selling our soul because we’re desperate for money. The deal will be from the Saudi government using a separate company as a front, it’s sport washing with money basically. We literally just passed a ruling in the club statutes regarding human rights and portraying the right image, this goes against all of that.

This is their  first move  next one  they’ll offer to buy  the club  or buy  Laporta

Personally, I'll take Saudi millions for the reasons stated in my earlier lengthy comment above.

Jonny Martin,  How did you confirm that this company is a front company owned and directed by the Government of Saudi Arabia? Is this a source from your independent research? I'd like to confirm as well.

Couldn't find where it was said that human right violations are only present in muslim countries? It is a global phenomenon that is plaguing almost every Nation in the world, from the Nations in the Far East, the Orient, to the Western World, to Africa and the Middle East, you will find one form of egregious human right violation. So it is not specific or peculiar to Muslim Nations, except the violations in the Muslim  world are the precise object of scrutiny, which in this instance is not the case.

I’ve not confirmed anything however going off previous Saudi ownerships in particular the Newcastle takeover when the Saudi Public Investment Fund bought 80% of the club. They work I believe on behalf of the government and are known to be very close to the Saudi regime. Until it all comes out officially this is more or less an educated guess. I believe a similar deal was done to host the Anthony Joshua ruiz fight in Saudi too

but if the company itself has a human right violation record, then even if they offer triple or more for a year, it must be rejected
