Although this fact is often overlooked, Frenkie de Jong actually joined Barcelona as a part of a package deal back in 2019.
In addition to him, the Catalans signed Mike van Beijnen, the stepson of De Jong's agent Ali Dursun. Van Beijnen's transfer was described as a gesture from Bartomeu's board toward the agent.
Mike, 20 years of age at the time and playing as a right-back, was assigned to the reserves. His release clause was set at €100m.
The Dutchman did not impress in Catalonia, though. Six months later, Van Beijnen was shipped to Turkey without having played a single minute for Barca B.
The right-back didn't do much better in Turkey, making one appearance in half a year. He returned to the Netherlands in the summer of 2020, joining Fortuna Sittard - his club to his day, for which he's played four games since then.
Van Beijnen had a decent 2021/22 season on loan at FC Den Bosch in the Dutch second division, playing 29 matches and contributing with one goal and one assist.
