It was officially announced today that Antoinne Griezmann has permanently joined Atletico Madrid from Barcelona.
Let's do a plus and minus of what the entire Griezmann operation cost and earned Barca.
Expenditure: Barcelona spent €120m to sign Griezmann from Atletico in July 2019.
Salary: The Bartomeu administration placed the player on a salary worth about €18m per season. He received that sum for two seasons before joining Atleti on a two-year loan deal.
Total spent: €156m
Earnings: Barcelona will receive €20m and another €4m in add-ons for Griezmann's permanent move to Atleti.
Total earnings: €24m.
Thus, if we balance the books, Barcelona lost €132m in the Griezmann move. However, they managed to bring in some money as a transfer fee and save another €54m in salary which is what really matters right now - as pointed out by Laporta.
