Alonso: My parents laughed at me when I reluctantly trialled for Real Madrid

Speaking about his past with Real Madrid, where he spent his youth career and played for their reserves, Marcos Alonso told Sport: “Throughout my career, I always wanted to sign for Barcelona, it was my team since I was a child.

“I trialled Real Madrid reluctantly, my parents laughed at me, but it was the best way for me to develop.”

Alonso made a single appearance for Real Madrid’s senior team in the 2009/10 season before moving to England.

After enjoying a prolific career, the Spaniard has gotten to live his dream of playing for Barca and become an important part of the squad this season, making 11 appearances and scoring one goal.
