Ronaldo probably hints at the possibility of facing Argentina in the World Cup knockouts. This is going to be the last World Cup for both players, so watching them face each other would be absolutely epic.

Anyway, we all know there is no need for Ronaldo to checkmate Messi anymore – the Argentine has won this 'chess game' against the Portuguese long ago!

A day after they broke the internet with a picture of 

 playing chess together, Louis Vuitton released a 'making of' video. 

The footage reveals that, sadly, the two football idols did not actually meet to take the picture.

Here's a screengrab that shows that Messi was alone in the frame. 

Moreover, it looks like the pictures of Leo and Cristiano were taken at separate locations. 

The fact that Messi and Ronaldo were photoshopped in together does take away from the iconic status of this picture. Nevertheless, it is still remarkable to see them appear in an ad together, which is something that never happened before.

 have done for Luis Vuitton -- in which the two football stars are playing chess -- has broken the Internet. Across their two accounts on Instagram, the posts have gathered almost 50 million likes and over half a million comments. 

The picture is iconic not only because the two lifelong rivals appear in the picture together. The chess pieces' arrangement seems to reference the legendary chess match between Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura from 2017.

Interestingly, that match ended in a draw, and this could suggest that the Messi-Ronaldo rivalry will not have a definitive answer either. However, the debate is likely to be over if one of them wins the
