Ex-Barca talent Andre Onana leaves Cameroon squad for disciplinary reasons: what happened

Former La Masia goalkeeper Andre Onana has left the Cameroon squad for disciplinary reasons with immediate effect.

"The Cameroon Football Federation [whose president is Samuel Eto'o] reiterates its full support to the Head Coach and his entire staff as they implement the Federation's policy aimed at preserving discipline, solidarity, complementarity and cohesion within the national team," the official statement reads.

Fabrizio Romano reports that there was a row between Onana and Cameroon's head coach, Rigobert Song. Andre wanted to play as a 'traditional' goalkeeper, not a sweeper keeper; Song had a different opinion.

After Onana left the camp, Devis Epassy replaced him in goal and conceded three against Serbia, although Cameroon managed to save a point.

In February 2021, Onana was banned from football for 12 months after breaching doping violations. As explained by the player, he accidentally took furosemide - a banned substance - that was prescribed to his wife after giving birth. This year, he came back to action with Inter Milan.

Onana left Barcelona for Ajax in 2015.
