Pep Guardiola: ‘If I thought I was essential, I would've returned to Barca. But that's not the case’

When asked if he signed the contract extension at 

: “If I thought I was essential, I would return, but that’s not the case.

“If one day we have to meet again, we will meet again naturally and without forcing it.”

Pep  has signed a new contract extension at City which will keep him at the club until at least 2025. He feels comfortable at the club and isn’t keen on joining any other side so far.

Joan Laporta spoke about bringing Guardiola back to the club in the past, and many fans wanted it as well. The coach's previous deal was set to expire at the end of the current season but it seems like Pep never considered leaving.

After Guardiola left Barcelona, he coached Bayern, and now at Man City. 
Pep is an ambitious individual, he wanted to prove to himself he can repeat the success he had in Barcelona, elsewhere as well, and other then coming short in the UCL, he has done exceptionally well.
After Valverde left, and between Setien, Koeman, and Xavi, there was an opportunity for Pep to come in and become Barcelona's saviour once again, but he had other plans, which is totally his right.
But, Guardiola's statement (if I thought I was essential, I would've returned to Barca) doesn't hold water, if the 2-8 disgraceful defeat to Bayern doesn't make it essential, then I don't know what does. 
Having said that though, Guardiola is entitled to coach wherever he wants, he just can't have it both ways, that's what I'm saying.
