Why Barca is the only top club Aubameyang can join in January: explained by FIFA regulations

As per reports, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wants to leave Chelsea in January.

It turns out that, if the Gabonese wants to continue playing at the top level, the only club he can join is Barcelona. That is according to FIFA regulations.

"Players may be registered with a maximum of three clubs during one season. During this period, the player is only eligible to play official matches for two clubs. As an exception to this rule [is] a player moving between two clubs belonging to associations with overlapping seasons..." FIFA rule 5.3 says.

Auba was registered as a Barca player at the start of the season. Now, he is registered as a Chelsea. Theoretically, he can join a third club in Spain, England etc, but he will be unable to play there because he made an official appearance for Barca this term (8 minutes v Rayo Vallecano in August).

So, this makes Camp Nou his only realistic destination. The only alternative is moving to a country where a new season is set to start like the US, Brazil or Norway.

Meanwhile, the reputable Fabrizio Romano confirms that Barca are interested in bringing Auba back as long as Memphis Depay leaves and Pierre agrees to lower his salary and joins for free.
