Barcelona have tried to extend the contract of Victor Barbera but the talks have stopped after the 18-year-old striker received an offer from Club Brugge, Mundo Deportivo's credible Gabriel Sans (5 stars) reports.
The Barca Atletic youngster has made the decision to join the Belgian club as a free agent next summer. The are two reasons behind this decision.
First of all, Brugge are ready to offer Barbera a longer contract with a significant pay rise. Meanwhile, the Catalans are restrained by their financial situation and can't match the offer.
And second, they are offering him first-team football at one of the best leagues in Europe. Brugge plan to sell Ferran Jutgla to Lazio and replace him with the 18-year-old. Barca, on the other hand, believe that Barbera is not yet ready for the first team.
Mundo Deportivo add that Xavi no longer calls up Victor for first-team training because the club knows they can't count on him in the long term.
This term so far, Barbera has recorded 8 goals and one assist in 20 matches for Barca Atletic and 7 goals in 4 matches for Barca U19 in the Youth Champions League.
