The Italian giants sent two letters to the Spanish giants informing them of their decision to quit the project. However, the bureaucratic process will take a few weeks to complete.
With only Real Madrid and Barca left to push the project, the idea of a European Super League seems to be dying a natural death.
12 teams floated the idea of a European Super League in mid-2021, including six from the Premier League, three from Spain and three from Italy. The competition was to become an innovative money-spinning tournament to overshadow the Champions League.
