Most times players are what the coaches make out of them, system and type of teammates they play with. That's why sometimes, you see a player playing very well under a certain coach and team and because of that performance, another club acquires/buys him but he wouldn't be able to replicate the same performance at the new club. Coutinho, Griezmann and Dembele(until Xavi) are living examples at Barca. In Coutinho's case,  l, still believe Valverde contributed in killing his career.
