When Deco was appointed Barca's new sporting director, he was 'alarmed' to learn Ousmane Dembele's low release clause.
According to Sport, Deco sent a serious warning to Barca in June asking them to fast-track his contract renewal to avoid the clause being triggered by a big-spending European club.
Deco's warning to Barca has now come true as PSG have contacted Dembele about a possible move. If the player agrees to the offer they will immediately pay the €50m release clause.
Insiders say if the clause is triggered, Barca will only get €25m of that money with the remainder going to the player and his entourage. Recall that Barca spent €135m to sign Dembele from Dortmund in 2017.
Some fans would argue that Barca have never really gotten good value for Dembele since he arrived to replace Neymar. The Frenchman has scored just 40 goals in 185 Barca matches across six years.
Injuries have been Dembele's biggest challenge at Barca. Stats show he's missed over 115 Barca games through one injury or the other.
