Leo Messi leads Inter Miami to their first ever trophy, scores in every game

Leo Messi may have turned the worst MLS teams into one of the best, if not the best one.

Inter Miami have won the Leagues Cup, an annual competition between teams from the US and Mexico.

Messi's team beat Nashville in the final game. Messi opened the score in the normal time but the game ended 1-1 and went to penalties. Leo's team then won the penalty shoot-out 10-9.

It must be noted that Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba also played their game and converted their attempts. And to complete the Barca connection, there's the head coach also Tata Martino.

Messi has scored in each game on the way to the trophy, including last-gasp winners and equalisers.

You may be wondering if the Leagues Cup is a big deal or not? It's pretty big.

It's hard to think of its European equivalent but let's just say the winner qualifies directly for the CONCACAF Champions League Round of 16. It's sort of like if European Champions League winner Man City started their title defence from the Round of 16 this year.

Now Miami will have to improve their league position in the MLS where they sit rock bottom of their conference, 12 points shy of the play-off zone (the MLS champion is determined through a play-off but you have to qualify first).

But seeing Inter Miami beat the likes of Nashville and Atalanta United who are having a solid year, you would think they will be alright.
