What is Antwerp? Barca's Champions League opponent explained

Barcelona have been drawn into one group with Antwerp.

Some of you may have never heard about this club – and it's completely fine since they haven't played in the Champions League / European Cup for 66 years!

Royal Antwerp are the reigning Belgian top-flight champions. Last season, they clinched the title with a dramatic late equaliser against Genk on the final matchday. Their head coach is Mark van Bommel who played for Barcelona in 2005/06, winning the Champions League with the Catalans.

By the way, Antwerp are Belgium's oldest club, founded in 1880.

Antwerp's most famous player is Toby Alderweireld who played a lot for Tottenham Hotspur and Belgium's national team.
