The 2023 Ballon d'Or award is clearly a two-horse race between Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland.
But for many football faithful, Leo isn't in competition with anyone for the award, despite Haaland being crowned UEFA Best Player in 2023.
In fact, some Man City fans have conceded the award to Messi after reflecting on his historic achievement for Argentina, in which he won the World Cup.

💭Jvann05: "I love Man City and love Messi, I'm happy that Messi will win but I'm sad Haaland won't get it for his amazing year. He still has a lot of time though"
💭Mr Rockmore: "Regrettably I think Messi will win but at least this will bring the end of the Ballon D'or Ronaldo and Messi wankfest."
However, there are other Man City fans who believe the award belongs to their star striker after he scored 52 goals in 53 games.
💭Markyty04: "There is literally no doubt Haaland had the better year. countless top performances compared to maybe 5 for Messi. Haaland should win it for his effectiveness last year though Messi is the better player in isolation."
💭FuryofOberon: "If it was anyone else but Messi we wouldn’t be having this conversation. If the achievements were reversed Haaland wouldn’t be up for the award. I have a soft spot for the GOAT but Haaland had the kind of season that deserves it."

If Messi succeeds in winning the award, it'll be his 8th Ballon d'Or trophy. No other player has won more than five.
