Lionel Messi was forced to be substituted after just 37 minutes in Inter Miami’s 4-0 win over Toronto FC on Wednesday.
Speaking on his situation after the game, Inter Miami manager Tata Martino said: “In principle, it’s a scar from an old injury that’s bothering him. The image brought with him from Argentina, there was no muscular injury.
“ We also preserved him [against Atlanta], because of that scar. I think it’s exactly the same thing, it’s not a muscular injury. But I’m saying that more than anything because of a talk I had with him. … Maybe we need to be more cautious than what I’m saying.”
Alongside Messi, former Barcelona defender Jordi Alba also suffered an injury. For the time being, it remains to be seen if Leo and Jordi can recover soon and be ready to start the U.S. Open Cup final game for Miami against Houston Dynamo next week.
