This week Inter Miami fans received a shocking email from their club confirming a 400% increase in season ticket prices effective from next season.
"If you’re an InterMiamiCF Season Ticket Holder, I’d suggest sitting down and downing a bottle of rum before you check your email," Inter Miami fan IMCFTraveller tweeted.
So what's the new price, you might ask. According to another Inter Miami fan Mike Ryan, the club's email quoted the new season ticket prices at $30,600. It was previously $6,802 for two seats per season.
"This makes Inter Miami the most expensive soccer ticket in the world with what I can only assume is the biggest year-over-year price increase ever. Outrageous," the fan complained on X.
The controversial email turned out to be a glitch, but Inter Miami have indeed increased their season ticket price for the coming campaign. It moves from $3,400 to $13,000.
For comparison, Barca doesn't have a season ticket that cost €1000. Here's what Barca season tickets cost last season, per the club's website: Main Stand (€870), Lateral Stand (€500), Corner (€450) and Goal (€360).
We can only think of one reason why Inter Miami tickets are so expensive. Earlier in the summer the club signed the legendary Lionel Messi; since then, Inter Miami tickets have been selling like hotcakes as everyone wants to see Messi play. .
