Andres Iniesta never won the Ballon d'Or in his career but 'female Iniesta', Aitana Bonmati, did it yesterday.
The Barcelona icon was one of the first to congratulate her on X. Iniesta wrote: "Congratulations Aitana Bonmati!!! Very well-deserved award after a spectacular year. Let's enjoy it!"
Aitana Bonmati has been likened to Andres Iniesta quite a few times for her exploits on the pitch and style of playing. Just like Andres in his prime years, she directs the entire play for both Barcelona Femeni and the Spanish national team.
In August 2023, Pep Guardiola said on Aitana: "She is a football player who has me completely in love with her for the way she plays. I would say she is like the women's Iniesta playing for Barcelona. The current Barcelona team has made an incredible impact on the women's team in football."
