Argentina's no. 10 trending worldwide after Brazil hat-trick – it's NOT Messi

Argentina's Claudio Echeverri is making headlines.

The 17-year-old attacking midfielder has scored THREE goals in what could be his biggest career game so far – against Brazil in the U17 World Cup quarterfinals.

He has also become the first player to score thrice for Argentina against Brazil at any level since Leo Messi did it in 2012. Actually, one of the goals Echeverri scored on Friday was very similar to Messi's 11 years ago.

The other two strikes were fantastic as well.

A little deflection helped him a lot here.

Echeverri's stats for Argentina U17 are amazing – 10 goals and 4 assists in 15 games for the national team.

It's really special to see Echeverri play. Positionally, he often covers the areas where the 'old' Messi plays – in the central or the attacking midfield. His movement, however, reminds us of the young Leo, which is no surprise given his age. Their height is similar too.

Echeverri plays for Argentinian side River Plate. His current deal with the club expires in December 2024. Should Barca take a closer look at him?
