Barcelona have confirmed the resignation of economic vice president Eduard Romeu.
A club statement reads: "The Board of Directors have officially accepted the resignation of Eduard Romeu as the Club's Vice president for the Economic Area. As was explained on 14 March, Eduard Romeu informed his intention to leave his post at FC Barcelona in order to fully concentrate on his professional work."
Romeu was a powerful member of the Laporta administration as he helped the club manage its finances and cut costs over the past three years.
His departure has been questioned in the media as Romeu's inclusion in the board was crucial in helping the Laporta administration generate some much-needed income to help Barca stay afloat during a trying period financially.
Barca directors will now vote on who takes Romeu's place as economic VP in the coming days.
