Lamine Yamal makes final decision on playing at Olympics

The Spanish national team has been hoping to have Lamine Yamal at the Euros AND the Olympic Games in Paris this upcoming summer.

However, Barcelona fans and club officials are very much against the 16-year-old playing in both tournaments, fearing a repeat of the bitter experience Pedri had three years ago.

As a reminder, the midfielder, who played a total of 73 games for club and country that season, found himself plagued with constant injuries ever since.

But Culers can breathe a sigh of relief now - Yamal seems to have made up his mind on this matter.

"It wouldn’t be logical to participate in the Olympics after the Euros. I have been trying to have control over my playing time. It wouldn’t make sense to participate in both tournaments. Besides, I remember Pedri doing so - he was the only one. I remember what happened to him after.

"And it would anyways depend on how the Euro Cup goes," he concluded.

Yamal has already amassed 43 appearances for club and country, and could well surpass 60 by July, which is quite a workload for a teenager. It's probably for the best that he won't go to the Olympics.
