Journalist who racially abused Lamine Yamal after PSG game breaks silence after getting sacked

Movistar journalist Germán 'El Mono' Burgos made headlines last Wednesday when he joked that Lamine Yamal would've been nothing but a traffic light boy if he hadn't made it in football.

Both PSG and Barcelona responded swiftly. They cut all ties with Movistar and prevented their players or coach from giving interviews to the media outlet. Movistar had little choice but sack the Burgos.

Explaining his outrageous comment, Burgos said:

"The comment was about the talent and skill of the footballer. People have not heard the complete audio.

"As the audio continues, it is an emotional tone. What's more, I break with humour.

"The company has to act, nothing happens. I still use Movistar, I'm not going to change. I went back to two producers of the program and told them 'I'll get out of the way,'" he said.

Burgos also claimed he contacted Barca president Joan Laporta and Yamal to apologize and let them know he was jokingly making a compliment.

Since Burgos' dismissal, Barca have restored their relationship with Movistar and allowed them to interview some of their players ahead of the second leg with PSG.
