Former Barcelona president Joan Gaspart has criticized Xavi’s decision to undermine the club’s ability to compete for major trophies next season.
He said in the El 10 del Barca program: “I did not like Xavi’s statements. I support freedom of expression, but the Barcelona coach must spread optimism and hope.
“We have to think about next season with the kids who have been out recently, just like what happened with Pique, Valdes, Xavi, Puyol, Iniesta, Messi (although it is a very special case), plus some signings.
“They will keep winning again and we have to. Be patient, let’s not create a bad atmosphere.”
Gaspart has a point here as Barca are continuously producing top level talent from their academy. The likes of Gavi, Pedri, Pau Cubarsi, Lamine Yamal and Alejandro Balde are all expected to be key players for the first team next season.
The young guns need help from some quality, experienced players for Barca to push for major trophies next season.
