Hans-Dieter Flick came up with a really explosive speech in the half time of Germany v Costa Rica at the 2022 World Cup.
What seemed to worry the German the most was that his players weren't using the pitch width to the fullest.
"In the final phase, here and here, we need width. Play the ball here. Pass it from one side to the other, one side to the other. Pass the ball, but with confidence, guys (...) It's too slow."
In fact, this is exactly the instruction we often hear Xavi giving to this players all season. The Barca boss was often seen fuming about the team's hesitation to move the ball from one side to another and pass it in a quick way.
Playing wide in possession helps to stretch the opposition defence which is particularly helpful against teams that are well-disciplined at the back.
Would Flick have to face this problem at Barca too?
