Eric Abidal has pleaded for his wife Hayet to forgive him after it was revealed that the Frenchman had an affair with women's player Kheira Hamraoui during their time at Barcelona.
The former defender wrote on Instagram: "Hayet, forgive me. Whatever your decision, you will remain in my eyes the woman of my life, and the mother of our wonderful children. I deserve this humiliation even though it kills me alive."
The details of the affair between Abidal and Hamraoui became public earlier this month as part of the investigation into the gruesome attack on the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder.
Hayet, a former gymnast, has officially announced that she was seeking a divorce from the 42-year-old. The couple, who have been married since 2003, have five children together.
