'My interest in football has grown in recent years': Hollywood star George Clooney hints he wants to buy Derby County

Hollywood actor George Clooney has taken a surprise interest in wanting to buy Derby County and save them from going out of business.

The 60-year-old star was introduced to the club by actor Jack O’Connell and has been supporting them for quite a while.

Speaking about his love for Derby, Clooney said: “Derby has a great football club with a fantastic history and I am sure there is a great future too.

“I know that there have been problems in recent times but nothing cannot be fixed and under the circumstances the team has been working really hard and playing well.

“My interest in soccer has certainly grown in recent years and a few years ago I was asked if I would like to be involved with a group of others looking to buy Malaga Football Club in Spain.

“It was quite an exciting prospect but ultimately it fell through. Perhaps owning a football club is the next best thing to playing for one. Maybe, one day.”

Wayne Rooney’s side look to be bound to be relegated from the Championship because of the 21-point deduction they received last year.

But, Clooney’s investment could help bring back stability to the club that has been in administration for many months.
