Miraculous turnaround: Bristol Rovers needed 7 goal win to secure final day promotion - they go on to win 7-0

In one of the stories of the season, League Two side Britstol Rovers were in 4th place, just one short of the automatic promotion spots on the final day of the season.

Northampton Town were 3rd going into the final day of the season and won their game against Barrow 3-0, hoping that would be enough to secure promotion.

Joey Barton's Bristol Rovers had other ideas though. They needed to win against Scunthorpe by at least 7 goals to tie the goal difference and move up into 3rd place as they would have scored more goals than Northampton in doing so.

They got a good start with a Scunthorpe own-goal but could only manage manage one more goal in the entire first half.

The second half was an entirely different story as the Rovers came out strong and scored goal after goal. With 5 minutes of normal time to play, they were 6-0 up and were looking for the goal to send them up.

Newcastle loanee Elliot Anderson came up with the header in the 85th minute to send the entire stadium into a frenzy. Fans descended upon the pitch and had to be removed so play could start again.

Eventually, the game ticked on into the 115th minute when the full-time whistle blew and Bristol Rovers fans kicked off the celebrations, lifting Joey Barton and the players on their shoulders.
