Bayern Munich are Bundesliga champions for the 11th time in a row.
Borussia Dortmund were league leaders heading into the matchday and all they had to do was to defeat Mainz, who had nothing to play for. Yet, Dortmund were 2-0 down within 24 minutes and only managed to draw the game 2-2, the second goal coming with no time left.
Bayern still had to beat Koln to overtake, which they did thanks to a late goal from Jamal Musiala — 2-1.
Both teams finished level on points but Bayern have a superior goal difference:
It's actually shocking that Dortmund let that happen, as it was their best crack at the league title in years, with Bayern Munich being in a huge crisis and replacing their head coach mid-season.
It's telling that Bayern win the league with just 71 points from 34 games. The last time a team won Bundesliga with fewer points was in the season 2009-10 when Bayern finished top with 70.
All that caused a bunch of reactions as it's obvious lots of neutrals wanted to see a Bayern Munich upset.
Maybe next year will be the year for Borussia Dortmund who last won the Bundesliga title in the 2011-12 season, right before Bayern went on a title-winning spree.
At the bottom, Hertha Berlin and Schalke got relegated while Stuttgart will play a two-legged playoff with the third team in the second tier for the right to play in Bundesliga next season.
