Belgians on international conflict and conflicts -- name a better duo.
Thibaut Courtois has landed himself in controversy after he shockingly left the Belgian camp. That was his reaction to Romelu Lukaku being appointed the new captain of the team ahead of him. He felt 'offended' at the choice made by head coach Dominico Tedesco and chose not to travel for the game against Austria.
Belgium teammate Yannick Carrasco opened up on the incident: "Regarding Thibaut Courtois, the head coach was very clear with us. Courtois is one of the three captains and [anyway] the armband is not important. We haven't had the opportunity to discuss the issue with him.
"Maybe there are other reasons for his exit but the captaincy is definitely one of them. We are hugely disappointed but we have to go on."
Courtois is one of two Belgium vice-captains along with Lukaku. In Kevin de Bruyne's absence, Lukaku was given the nod, which caused a massive stir on Courtois' side.
The Real Madrid goalkeeper gave his account of the events, taking the blame off his shoulders.
