In this experimental series of posts, we'll cover every big-money transfer of this transfer window day by day.
By big money we might mean relatively small money too -- it depends on a given day.
Here are the most important transfers that happened on 3 August 2023 for you.
Carlos Borges, 19 left winger: Man City U21 -> Ajax €19m
Man City's academy keep producing talent the club can sell for a good profit -- see previous examples of Romeo Lavia and James Trafford.
Borges was voted the Premier League 2 Player of the Season but never made a single appearance for Pep Guardiola. His contract with Ajax includes a 20% sell-on clause as well as a buyback option.
Ayase Ueda, 24, centre forward: Cercle Brugge -> Feyenoord €8m
Feyenoord broke their transfer record to sign the prolific Japanese: last season, Ueda scored 18 goals in the Belgian league. He also played at the World Cup in Qatar but not in a prominent role.
Diant Ramaj, 21, goalkeeper: Eintracht Frankfurt -> Ajax, €8m
Eintracht manage to sell their back-up goalkeeper for some very good money. Diant Ramaj has just two Bundesliga appearances (one in each of his two seasons in Frankfurt) and is only valued at €750,000 by Transfermarkt. Apparently, Ajax see something in him.
Cyle Larin, 28, centre forward: Real Valladolid -> Mallorca, €7.5m
The Canadian Cyle Larin was a revelation at Valladolid last season (we even dared to suggest him to FC Barcelona). Unfortunately, his 8 goals in half a season in La Liga were not enough to secure survival for the Ronaldo-owned team so naturally, Larin took a step forward to stay in the top tier with Mallorca.
Kerem Demirbay, 30, central midfielder: Bayer Leverkusen -> Galatasaray, €3.7m
Demirbay was an important player in Bundesliga for a decade. At some point, Bayer paid €32m for his services and now he's left them for a tenth of that fee.
Demirbay even played twice for Germany despite representing Turkey at the youth level. He will now play in Turkey for the latest champions.
