Why were Bayern so desperate to get Harry Kane if they win Bunedsliga even at their worst? Explained

Bayern Munich have agreed the €100m deal with Tottenham to sign Harry Kane. The player has decided to go and it seems like a matter of days before he is announced.

But why would Bayern break their transfer record for a player with a year left on his contract if they're so successful without Kane?

Let's name three key reasons.

1. Bayern have no specialist striker. The most a Bayern player scored last season was 17: winger Serge Gnabry and 33-year-old forward Eric Choupo-Moting managed that number. For the sake of comparison, Robert Lewandowski had scored 50 a year before.

Let's not forget Kane is a specialist at bringing others into play. He's not a beanpole of a striker who respawns at the far post in search of a tap-in but rather a playmaker kind of forward with a flair for goal.

2. The rivals are getting way stronger. RB Leipzig are hell-bent on overtaking Bayern and have so far spent much more than Bayern this summer. Don't forget about the spending of the teams in the Champions League.

3. That's how top clubs act. The likes of Man United fans may not be used to it but that's how well-run clubs solve their problems and back their coach.

Some might say Bayern overpay given Kane's contract situation but the Bundesliga winners clearly choose to live in the present moment and there's no finer goalscorer on the market than England captain Harry Kane.
