As reported by The Athletic, Ajax is on the verge of signing Chuba Akpom from Middlesbrough. The Dutch club has come to an agreement with both the Championship side and the player himself. The 27-year-old is set to move for €12 million (£10.4 million, $13.2 million), with an additional €2 million in potential add-ons.
Akpom is all set for a medical on Monday and is expected to sign a five-year contract. He had an impressive season with Middlesbrough, scoring 29 goals in 42 games across various competitions.
With a year left on his contract, Akpom's future seemed uncertain. He expressed a desire to stay with Middlesbrough but acknowledged that certain factors were beyond his control.
Having begun his career at Arsenal, Akpom went on to join Greek side PAOK on a permanent basis in 2018 after several loan spells across different levels of English football.
Ajax faced disappointment with a third-place finish in Eredivisie last season. However, they started the 2023-24 campaign with a convincing 4-1 victory over Heracles on Saturday.
