Ben Foster immediately retires after criticism for shipping 13 goals in four games for Wrexham

Ben Foster is making a surprising exit. He's decided to leave Wrexham right away.

The ex-Manchester United goalie, faced some criticism from Wrexham's own fans and vloggers from different places. This all started after he let in five goals for the second time in just four League Two matches.

Foster had come out of retirement less than a year ago to help Wrexham get promoted to the EFL. But his time in League Two hasn't been smooth sailing. He hasn't managed to keep a clean sheet in any of his four league games, and twice he's allowed five goals in a match. In four games Foster conceded 13 goals.

Quoted by the Daily Star, the veteran has now revealed:"The honest truth is that my performances this season haven’t reached the level I demand of myself and I feel that now is the right time to retire."

"At the forefront of my mind when making this decision, was not only what was best for me but also the Club, and making the decision now gives the Club every opportunity to assess their options before the window closes. Wrexham will always have a special place in my heart."

Wrexham boss Parkinson supported his keeper, saying: "Ben has been the model professional while at Wrexham and has done everything we have asked of him. It takes a big person to make the decision he has and one who really understands this Football Club, with the timing of his decision."
