'The warriors of today': Injured England captain Leah Williamson sends Lionesses message

Leah Williamson, the England captain, had something really special to say. Even after their World Cup final loss, she called her Lionesses team-mates the "warriors of today".

Williamson couldn't play in the most successful Women's World Cup campaign ever due to a tough ACL injury. So, she watched from the sidelines as England faced Spain in the final. Unfortunately, Spain took the win with Olga Carmona's goal making the difference.

On her Instagram story Williamson wrote: "These girls are not the princesses that USED to grace your bedtime stories. They are the warriors of today, that had a voice when there was no say or way."

"They rewrite the definition of strength year on year and know they are their own biggest competition. Tomorrow to them sounds like an opportunity. You just need to listen."

Her response comes at a time when people are really upset about how female soccer players are being treated worldwide. It might be seen as a kind of criticism aimed at FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
