Why Belgium v Sweden proceeded till half-time despite 2 Swedes shot dead outside stadium

Two Swedish nationals were killed in the streets of central Brussels right before the football game between Belgium and Sweden.

The game, however, proceeded until half time when it was decided to suspend the clash with the scoreline being 1-1.

Manuel Lero, CEO of the Belgian FA, explained why the game went on: "It was first decided that the match should start because the stadium was the safest place. The evacuation was in line with advice from the National Crisis Centre."

Following the game's end, Sweden's players and coaching staff were escorted straight to the airport.

Swedish fans in the stadium were seated in shuttle buses with a police escort.
