Sandro Tonali has revealed his betting addiction and admitted to betting on AC Milan games in which he didn't take part.
Newcastle reacted to their player's situation: "Newcastle United can confirm that Sandro Tonali is subject to investigation by the Italian Prosecutor's Office and Italian Football Federation (FIGC) in relation to illegal betting activity.
"Sandro is fully engaging with the investigation and will continue to cooperate with all relevant authorities. He and his family will continue to receive the club's full support.
"Due to this ongoing process, Sandro and Newcastle United are unable to offer further comment at this time."
Tonali could be banned for a long time although it's not clear yet if his ban could be valid outside Italy.
Italy is facing an ever-growing betting scandal as more are more players are uncovered as betting addicts: Nicolo Zaniolo and Federico Gatti. Stephan El Shaarawy and Nicolo Cesale are the latest suspects.
