'If they had done that with my daughter': Ex-Brazil player sends a harsh message to Daniel Alves and Robinho after rape convictions

Felipe Melo, a former teammate of Dani Alves and Robinho, has been straightforward when speaking about their rape convictions.

Quoted by the Daily Mail, Melo said: "I have a 15-year-old daughter. If they had done that with my daughter, I don't think I would be here to give this interview."

"I believe we must respect other human beings, we must respect women, we must respect men. They have to pay for what they did. And let it serve as a lesson so that others do not do it. This is very serious."

Both Dani Alves and Robinho are facing serious legal troubles, ruining their once-respected reputations.

Recently, both players have been charged with crimes that could lead to prison time. Alves is currently appealing his conviction, while Robinho has been found guilty in 2017 and is facing a nine-year sentence for his involvement in a gang rape case dating back to 2013.

Alves managed to avoid immediate incarceration by posting a bail bond of €1 million and is now appealing his four-and-a-half-year sentence from his home. Robinho, though, was arrested at his flat in Santos last week, following his conviction in 2017.
