Denmark shows 1.7% gambling spendings decrease in 2023

According to the annual report from Spillemyndigheden, the Danish Gambling Authority, the country's gaming market slightly decreased in 2023 compared to the previous year.

Danes' combined gambling spending reached $1.48bn which was 1.7% less than the 2022 numbers. The regulator says a minor decrease was registered in all aspects of gambling: lotteries, betting and slot machines.

Meanwhile, the number of Denmark citizens who prefer to gamble with legal platforms only is slightly growing. For instance, in 2022, the share of gamblers using the services of licensed operators was 89.2%. By the end of 2023, it grew to 90.2%.

Besides, Danish citizens have been actively excluding themselves from online and/or retail gambling and betting either temporarily or permanently. In 2023, 46,152 people registered in the DGA's self-excluding system, compared to 38,921 in 2022. In April 2024, the number o self-excluded gamblers reached 50,000.
